I have been painting for over 20 years and my studio is in St Helens on the Isle of Wight where I specialise in seascapes, landscapes and architectural painting in acrylic, watercolour and pastel. I am a member of The Society of Women Artists and The Hilliard Society of Miniaturists and my paintings are widely exhibited through galleries & exhibitions plus a frequently changing studio display; visitors always welcome! Several paintings have been turned into cards or prints and I stock Isle of Wight cards and notelets.
Commissioned art is an important part of my work, especially working closely with my clients throughout the painting process. Please do contact me if you would like discuss an idea.
I have been a tutor in Adult Education since 1994 running classes, workshops, outdoor watercolour classes on the Isle of Wight, a painting holiday in Austria and now in its third year, teaching on a residential painting holiday at Cheddar Gorge. I have been a contributor to the Leisure Painter Magazine for a number of years which I thoroughly enjoy.
Much of my inspiration comes from our amazing Island countryside, with its great natural light and ever changing skies, sculptured coastline, tree lined beaches and undulating landscape. Equally I have found huge inspiration from my painting trips abroad, delighting in new and varied subject matter. Over the past few years I have been exploring acrylic paint in detail, loving the texture and the pull and push of this medium. I particularly love the effect of light and colour, seeking out new and innovative ways of interpreting this in my paintings.
Being a keen sailor has added to my repertoire of subject matter and my work includes sailing scenes from the Solent and Cowes. I spend as much time as possible sketching, with my preferred method as pen and wash, mainly for its immediacy and the impressionistic style that I can achieve with this.
