About Becky Samuelson
My Biography

I have been painting professionally for over twenty years and work from my studio in St Helens on the Isle of Wight (England) where I specialise in marine, landscape and architectural painting in watercolour, acrylic and pastel. Much of my inspiration comes from our amazing Island countryside with its huge diversity and great natural light providing me with constant inspiration. We have everything from meandering coastlines with sculptured wooden groynes to undulating hills and downs. I particularly love the use of colour and the effect of light and try to seek out new and innovative ways of interpreting my subject
I spend as much time as possible sketching, with my preferred method as pen and wash, mainly for its immediacy and the impressionistic style that I can achieve with this. I love painting in Italy and Lakes Garda and Como, Venice and Sorrento have provided me with much inspiration. Honfleur, the lavender fields of Provence are also recent hotspots.

For the past twenty two years I have sailed with my husband in firstly "X" One Designs and then in "Redwings" which has added to my repertoire of subject matter and I am equally at home painting the various classes of sailing boats in the Solent and during Cowes week as I am with beach and landscape scenes. For those who want their boats painted, I have found it essential to have knowledge of rigging and design for accuracy.

My work has been exhibited in major galleries both on and off the Island, including the Alexander Gallery, Bristol; UK Fine Art Ledbury; and Seaview , Bembridge and Kendalls Galleries, Isle of Wight. I exhibit annually at The Mall Galleries for the "Art for Youth" exhibition and regularly with various London societies. I am a Member of The Society of Women Artists and a member of The Hilliard Society of Miniaturists.

I have been a contributor to the Leisure Painter Magazine for a number of years now and I am a professional member of the SAA. Other publications include Country Homes and Interiors, Pastel Artist International Magazine, as greeting cards with The Medici Galleries and Noel Tatt and as prints and greeting cards through Art Marketing.

I teach for the Adult Education Service at the Isle of Wight College, run private outdoor summer classes and tuition and have produced artwork for numerous businesses.
In 2008 I started teaching on residential painting holidays;  Austria and Cheddar Gorge, Somerset 2008  and Cheddar Gorge 2009.  A painting holiday is planned also for 2010.
I enjoy demonstrating to groups and am very happy to undertake commissions.
